STORY AND FOTOS By: Desiree' Rudder````````````````
Anxious and excited, I walked briskly
toward the
Roseland Theater. I turned the corner to find tour
busses lining the street at the back entrance. My
heart started pounding hard in my chest. As I neared
even closer, I counted four busses. I was mesmerized
by the beautiful cobalt blue color of one of the first
busses I came to. Little did I know it held the gems
of the up-and-coming, future mega-group, "SPINESHANK".
After going through the necessary avenues to be able
to interview Spineshank, we were led back to the blue
bus...a warm smile spread across my face... "How
fitting" I thought to myself, "Super Group...Super
Bus!"...The door swings open I and I head up the stairs
with my co-interviewer, Matt McCourt.
We are greeted by "Chucky II, the bloody bus driving doll"
. My
attention is immediately tuned with a child's
laughter. I pan left and there is a 4 or 5 year old
boy playing with Lego's and sitting next to the
drummer of Spineshank....obviously the son of one of
the group's members. I was very pleasantly surprised
by the atmosphere on the tour bus...Very family
oriented.
The drummer and lead singer both
sat on the couch
across from us and were very attentive. I couldn't
help but think a time or two, "Wow, these guys are so
young". And then marvel at the professionalism that
oozed from their pores. Business men all the way....I
love that quality in people...it especially strikes a
chord when I see people following their dreams and
working damned hard for it.
They spoke of who their early influences
were...Motley Crue, Cinderella..."butt-rock all the
way" as the drummer put it. And of their later
influences with the likes of Slayer, Pantera, etc.
You can see the excitement of music is still fresh
with these fellas...what it means to them, personally,
to be doing what they are doing. They expressed the
gratitude of experience being able to tour Europe and
to tour the United States for the second time.
The future looks bright for Spineshank...after this
tour they will be joining OZFEST 2001 at the end of
the summer.
There is nothing jaded or cynical
about Spineshank.
After the show, I found the drummer visiting with
fans. He even obliged me with a couple of photos with
some of his fans and he was kind enough to take a
picture of me and Matt with my camera! Thanks man!!!
You are "tops" in my book!!!!
Their interaction with their fans
and their talented,
tight, teamwork which emanates through each and every
song, brings a new found respect for this fantastic
example of what a lot of hard work and perseverence
can bring. I look forward to watching them grow as a
Mega-group and I am excited for the opportunities for
unlimited personal growth. May the winds of fortune continue to
blow their way.
